IGBP is now implementing its research under a new scientific structure of six projects and two integrating activities. The projects are centred on the three major Earth System compartments – ocean, land and atmosphere – and the interfaces between them, with PAGES and GAIM providing the integrative system perspective. Some projects under the earlier IGBP structure are working towards their completion dates and will continue to operate for the next 1-2 years. This section contains contact information for all active IGBP projects, under both the new and old structures.
Each project is guided by a Scientific Steering Committee (SSC), which undertakes the detailed planning and implementation. SSC membership rotates annually with three-year terms of appointment, once renewable. Over 200 scientists from the international global change research community are directly involved in the planning and implementation of IGBP research. Each IGBP Project is supported by an International Project Office (IPO), whose staff coordinate and facilitate the Project's work on a full-time basis. The network of IPOs and the IGBP Secretariat together form the basic infrastructure that supports IGBP's research activities.
