Role in IGBP:

GLOBEC scientist and member of GLOBEC International Numerical Modelling Working Group

Other Affiliations/Interests:

I am interested in the dynamics of the coastal ocean and the coupling between physics and biology in the ocean. My interest in shelf problems has led to an exploration of the North Atlantic circulation, in particular its influence upon the shelf. I have taken an approach involving experimental work at sea, data analysis and numerical modelling. I think that this eclectic approach is what I like most about oceanography. There is always a new idea to think about or a new approach to implement.

Working at computers is punctuated by interesting field trips and working on equipment in preparation for deployment. I like numerical modelling because it allows me to integrate several different aspects of the work and naturally leads to applications in ocean ecology, an area in which I have a growing interest.
